If contemporary Christians took seriously the possibility that those outside the boundaries of the church might hold the promise of renewal, if we ceased regarding ourselves as the source of salvation and the secular world as a potential threat, and if we emulated Jesus' example in accepting the faith and the courage of those who live beyond conventional standards of purity, well, I can hardly imagine how things would look. About This Quote

The church today needs to find a new way to reach out to the world in an authentic way. We have lost our ability to have a conversation with people who are not Christians or even in the church, yet we claim that this is exactly what Jesus wanted us to do. This quote is suggesting that when Christianity loses its ability to reach out to non-Christians, it will lose its base of believers. The church will no longer have much to offer them when they are not getting the benefits of our faith.
